Now you are walled in. They have laid siege against us. They smack the ruler of Israel’s face with a rod. “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, so small among the clans of Judah, from your people will come a ruler who will rule Israel for me. He will burst forth from the first sunrise from the days of eternity!” Therefore, YAHWEH will hand Israel over to her enemies until the labor pains are over and the child is born. And then the remnant of his brothers in exile will be reunited with the Israelites. He will take his stand and will lead and feed his flock with the strength that comes from YAHWEH and with the majesty of the name of his God. With this shepherd, they will live in safety, for his greatness will extend to the ends of the earth.
