The Day of the Lord
1About the times and the seasons: # 5:1 Dn 2:21; Ac 1:7 Brothers and sisters, you do not need anything to be written to you. 2For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord # 5:2 Jl 2:1; Mt 25:13; Ac 2:20; Php 1:6 will come just like a thief # 5:2 Jn 10:1 in the night. 3When they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction # 5:3 2Th 1:9 will come upon them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark, for this day to surprise you like a thief. # 5:4 Jb 24:13–17 5For you are all children of light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. # 5:5 Col 1:13 6So then, let us not sleep, like the rest, but let us stay awake and be self-controlled. 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled # 5:8 1Pt 5:8 and put on the armor # 5:8 Eph 6:14; Rv 9:9,17 of faith and love, and a helmet # 5:8 1Sm 17:5,38; Ps 60:7; 108:8; Is 59:17; Eph 6:17 of the hope of salvation. 9For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord # 5:9 Rv 11:8 Jesus Christ, # 5:9 Ac 15:26 10who died for us, # 5:10 Jn 11:51; Rm 14:9; 1Co 8:11; Gl 1:4 so that whether we are awake or asleep, # 5:10 1Th 5:6 we may live together with him. # 5:10 Lk 20:38; Php 1:23 11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
Exhortations and Blessings
12Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to give recognition # 5:12 1Co 16:18; Php 2:29 to those who labor among you and lead you # 5:12 Or care for you in the Lord and admonish you, 13and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace # 5:13 Mk 9:50 among yourselves. 14And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: # 5:14 2Th 3:15 warn those who are idle, # 5:14 Or who are disorderly, or who are undisciplined comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient # 5:14 Mt 18:26,29; Lk 18:7; 1Co 13:4; Heb 6:15; Jms 5:7–8; 2Pt 3:9 with everyone. 15See to it that no one repays evil for evil # 5:15 Mt 5:44; Rm 12:17; 1Pt 3:9 to anyone, # 5:15 Lk 7:47 but always pursue what is good for one another and for all. # 5:15 Rm 12:9; Gl 6:10; 1Th 5:21 16Rejoice # 5:16 2Co 6:10; Php 1:18 always, 17pray constantly, 18give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will # 5:18 Eph 6:6; 1Th 4:3; 1Pt 2:15; 4:2; 1Jn 2:17 for you in Christ Jesus. 19Don’t stifle the Spirit. 20Don’t despise prophecies, 21but test all things. # 5:21 Eph 5:17 Hold on to what is good. 22Stay away # 5:22 1Tm 4:3 from every kind of evil.
23Now may the God of peace # 5:23 Rm 15:33 himself sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit, # 5:23 Ps 51:12 soul, and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming # 5:23 1Th 1:10 of our Lord # 5:23 Rv 11:8 Jesus Christ. # 5:23 1Jn 2:28 24He who calls # 5:24 Col 3:15 you # 5:24 1Pt 1:15 is faithful; he will do it. 25Brothers and sisters, pray for us also. 26Greet all the brothers and sisters with a holy kiss. 27I charge you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the brothers and sisters. # 5:27 Col 4:16 28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

1But concerning the ittim (times) and the zmanim (seasons), Chaverim, you have no need for you to have anything in writing. 2For you yourselves know very well that the Yom Hashem comes like a ganav balailah (thief in the night). 3Whenever they say, “Shalom and Bitachon!” then sudden churban (destruction) will come upon them like the chevlei leydah (birth pangs) of the isha with a baby in her womb. And they can certainly not escape. 4But you, Achim b'Moshiach, are not in choshech that the Yom should overtake you like a ganav. 5For all of you are Bnei Ohr and Bnei Yom; we are not of the Lailah nor of the Choshech. 6Therefore, let us not “sleep” as the rest, but let us keep awake with zililut da'as (sober-mindedness). 7For the ones sleeping sleep balailah, and the ones indulging in shichrut (drunkenness) indulge in shichrut balailah. 8But we, being Bnei Yom, let us be bnei zililut da'as (sons of sober-mindedness), having clothed ourselves with the choshen (breastplate) of emunah and ahavah (agape) and as a KOVAH#5:8 Isa 59:17 (helmet) the tikvah of Yeshu'at Eloheynu. 9Because Hashem did not appoint us to charon af (the burning wrath) but to the attainment of Yeshu'at Eloheinu through Adoneinu, Moshiach Yehoshua. 10He is the one who made his histalkus and died on our behalf in order that whether we are [living] and awake or [passed away] and sleeping, we may live together with Moshiach. 11Therefore, give chozek (strength) and encouragement, building up one another, as indeed you are doing.
12Now we ask you, Achim b'Moshiach, to have discerning binah (understanding) and discern the ones laboring among you who are your Mashgichim Ruchaniyim (Spiritual Overseers) in Adoneinu. I'm referring to the ones who admonish and warn you. 13And esteem them most exceedingly in ahavah (agape), because of their avodas kodesh work. Let there be shalom bayis (family peace) also in the kehillah. 14And we exhort you, Achim b'Moshiach, warn the batlanim (unemployed or lazy loafers, idlers), comfort the congregant who is pachdan (fainthearted), those who are weak take an interest in, have savlanut (patience) with all. 15See that no one returns ra'ah for ra'ah, but always pursue haTov both for one another and for all. 16Have simcha always. 17Daven unceasingly. 18In everything offer hodayah, for this is the ratzon Hashem in Moshiach Yehoshua for you. 19Do not quench the Ruach Hakodesh. 20Do not reject nevu'ot (prophecies). 21But test kol davar (everything); hold fast to haTov. 22Abstain from every appearance of ra'ah (evil).
23And now Elohei HaShalom wholly set you apart as Kedoshim and may your whole ruach and nefesh and basar be preserved without blame at the Bi'as HaMoshiach Adoneinu Yehoshua. 24Ne'eman (Faithful) is the One who summons you to your kri'ah (calling). He will do it.
25Achim b'Moshiach, offer tefillos also concerning us.
26Say Drishat Shalom to all the Achim b'Moshiach with a neshikat kedoshah.
27By Adoneinu, I solemnly give you the directive that this iggeret hakodesh has to be read to all the Achim b'Moshiach.
28The Chen v'Chesed of Adoneinu, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua, be with you.
