And I looked,* and behold, a pale green horse! And the one who sat on it—his name was Death, and Hades was following after him. And authority was granted to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

And I looked,* and behold, a white horse! And the one who sat on it had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had upheld

and they cried out with a great voice, saying, “How long,* holy and true Lord, will You not judge and avenge our blood on those who live on the earth?” Then to each of them was given a white robe, and it was said to them that they were to rest a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers who were going to be killed as they had been would be completed.

And another horse emerged, fiery red; and it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that they would slay one another; and to him a great sword was given.

And I heard what appeared to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a denarius, and six pounds of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the olive oil and the wine!”
