This Advent Guide comes from students, faculty and staff at Belmont University. Advent is that season of waiting that carefully and purposefully helps us to realign our priorities and to glimpse, anew, our place before God. Our humble hope is this guide helps people focus more fully on Jesus Christ through the Advent season.

While living in exile on the island of Patmos, John got a vision of what it will be like when Jesus returns. John shares what he saw, as well as specific warnings and encouragements for the church, in a letter we now know as Revelation.

Revelation is God’s grand finale—His final Word to mankind—but it’s really just the beginning. If you’ve thought Revelation is complicated with all its symbolism, let veteran Bible teacher Dr. J. This is the first of 12 standalone monthly reading plans designed to complete a full year of study. Each plan focuses on the Book of Revelation while connecting related Old and New Testament passages and prophecies that Revelation quotes, alludes to, or builds upon. Revelation draws deeply from the Old Testament (Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Psalms, Exodus) and links to Jesus’ teaching (Matthew 24–25, Mark 13, Luke 21) and the rest of the New Testament. The monthly format makes it simple to follow and complete one section at a time.
