Die Here God het toe ’n tuin in Eden, in die ooste, geplant en die mens daar laat bly. Die Here God het verskillende bome uit die vrugbare tuin se grond laat opkom; pragtige bome met heerlike vrugte wat lekker is om te eet. In die middel van die tuin het die boom van die lewe gestaan asook die boom van kennis van goed en kwaad. ’n Groot rivier het binne-in Eden ontstaan en die hele tuin natgemaak. Daarvandaan het dit in vier takke verdeel. Die naam van die een tak was die Pison. Dit het deur die land van Hawila gekronkel. In Hawila was daar suiwer goud, balsem en oniks. Die tweede rivier is die Gihon genoem. Dit het deur die land Kus geloop. Die Tigris was die derde rivier. Dit is die een wat oos van Assur verbyloop. En die vierde rivier was die Eufraat. Die Here God het die mens in die tuin gesit sodat hy dit kon bewerk en oppas.
