Die HERE God het 'n tuin in Eden in die ooste geplant; en daar het hy die man wat hy gevorm het, neergesit. Die HERE God het verskillende bome uit die grond laat groei, pragtige bome met heerlike vrugte wat goed is om te eet. In die middel van die tuin het die boom van lewe gestaan, asook en die boom van kennis van goed en kwaad. 'n Rivier het uit Eden uitgegaan om die tuin nat te lei; en daarvandaan is dit geskei in vier koppe. Die naam van die eerste is Pison; dis wat die hele land Hawila omsingel, waar goud is; En die goud van daardie land is goed: daar is balsem en die onikssteen. Die naam van die tweede rivier is Gihon; wat die hele Kus land omtrek. Die naam van die derde rivier is Hiddekel; wat oos van Assirië loop. En die vierde rivier is Eufraat. Die HERE God het die mens geneem en hom in die tuin van Eden gesit om dit te bewerk en te bewaak.
