Hulle hoor toe die geluid van die HERE God wat in die tuin rondstap in die middagkoelte. Die mens en sy vrou het vir die HERE God weggekruip tussen die bome van die tuin. Die HERE God het na die mens geroep en vir hom gevra: “Waar is jy?” Hy het geantwoord: “Ek het U in die tuin hoor beweeg, en ek was bang, want ek is naak; toe het ek weggekruip.” Hy vra toe: “Wie het vir jou vertel dat jy naak is? Het jy van die boom geëet waaroor Ek jou beveel het dat jy nie daarvan mag eet nie?” Die mens het geantwoord: “Die vrou wat U gegee het om aan my sy te wees, sy is die een wat vir my van die boom gegee het, en ek het geëet.”
