About North Slope Iñupiaq

North Slope Iñupiaq (also known as North Alaskan Iñupiatun) is the dialect of the Inuit language which is spoken along the coast of the Arctic Ocean in Alaska from Kivalina and Point Hope in the west to the Canadian border in the east, and inland in the village of Anaktuvuk Pass.

About This Translation

This is the first Bible translation into North Slope Iñupiaq. The New Testament was translated by Roy Amaogak with the help of Donald amp Thelma Webster of Wycliffe Bible Translators, and published by the American Bible Society in 1967.

Old Testament translation began in the 1990s with help from the American Bible Society, and the project was reorganized in 2016 with support from community partners (Arctic Slope Community Foundation, Arctic Slope Regional Corporation), Canadian Bible Society, and Seed Company. The first fruits of the new partnership are the Pentateuch and Psalms, published by the Canadian Bible Society in 2021.
