Ê-li-sê nói với vua: “Xin vua lấy cung và tên ra đây.” Giô-ách lấy cung và tên. Ê-li-sê lại nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên: “Vua hãy giương cung lên.” Vua liền giương cung. Rồi Ê-li-sê đặt tay mình trên tay vua và nói: “Hãy mở cửa sổ về hướng đông.” Giô-ách mở cửa ra. Ê-li-sê lại nói: “Hãy bắn.” Vua liền bắn. Bấy giờ, Ê-li-sê nói: “Ấy là mũi tên chiến thắng của Đức Giê-hô-va, tức là mũi tên chiến thắng quân A-ram; vì vua sẽ đánh quân A-ram tại A-phéc, cho đến khi tận diệt chúng.” Ê-li-sê nói tiếp: “Xin vua hãy cầm lấy các mũi tên.” Vua liền cầm lấy. Ê-li-sê lại bảo vua Y-sơ-ra-ên: “Hãy đập xuống đất.” Giô-ách đập ba lần, rồi ngừng lại. Người của Đức Chúa Trời nổi giận với vua và nói: “Nếu vua đã đập năm hoặc sáu lần thì mới có thể đánh quân A-ram cho đến khi tận diệt chúng. Nhưng bây giờ, vua sẽ chỉ đánh bại quân A-ram được ba lần mà thôi.”
