ARAW 2 NG 5

How do we respond when people ask us about Jesus?

What would be the first thing you would say to a friend if they came to you asking about Jesus? Would you say that Jesus is a friend? A historical figure? A religious leader? Actually, a better question would be: Why even wait for someone to ask about Jesus?

Acts 1:8 assures us that true followers of Jesus are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and it is He who will give us the power to be what are called to be – witnesses! This means we are not necessarily called to be Doctors of Theology, but we are meant to share what we have seen, heard and experienced – the love, grace and transforming power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

God has strategically placed you where you are today to be His witness, and there are three practical things you can start doing today to be an effective witness:

  1. Pray – Take time to pray for the people around you – family, office or schoolmates, fellow members of a social club, neighbors etc. But also take time to actually approach some to pray WITH them. Ask them a simple, sincere question like “How may I pray for you?” Then ask if you can pray for them right there on the spot!
  2. Care – As you build or deepen relationships with people for whom you pray, go out of your way to do simple acts of kindness for them. It need not be elaborate nor expensive.
  3. Share – God has entrusted you with two precious things that you can share, and these are (a) your testimony about you came to know Jesus and how He has impacted your life so far (Here, you are speaking as an EYEWITNESS!); (b) the simple gospel, which carries the power of God for the salvation of people.

When God wanted to connect to humanity once and for all, He didn’t write us a sermon, He came to visit us in person. Our job is to be His witnesses, helping everyone around us to know God, to relate to Him, and to have their lives changed by the power of His love and forgiveness.

Remember, don’t wait for people to ask. “Go,” as Jesus said, and tell others about Him.
