Long before Saul’s death, God chooses his replacement, a boy named David. Saul even plays a part in the rising prominence of this boy. Verse 7 is a theme of 1 Samuel. The ways we would humanly expect things to turn out is not how God chooses to operate.

Today’s chapter is both sad and uplifting. God gives up on Saul, but He prepares the path forward. I pray I never get to a point where God gives up on me, but no matter how dark the days, He will still have the future in view.
