Here is an amazing promise about God meeting our needs when we commit to tithing our finances. The Lord says, “Try this, let me prove it to you!” Tithe means “one-tenth,” or ten percent. In the Old Testament, Abraham presented a tithe to the priest-king of Jerusalem, Melchizedek (Gen. 14:18–20). In the New Testament, Jesus warned that tithing must also include concern for the more important demands of the law, those that deal with just and merciful living (Matt. 23:23; Luke 11:42). Every Christian should regularly give of his or her finances for the work of God (see 2 Cor. 9:6–11).
