Saunt Matthew 16

The Pharisees alsua wi’ the Sadducees cam’, an’ temp’in’ desiret him that he wad shaw them a sign frae heaven.
He answer’t an’ said until them, Whan it is the gloamin’ ye say, It will be fair weather; for the lift is red:
An’ in the mornin’, It will be foul weather the day; for the lift is red an’ lowrin’. O ye hypocrites! ye do shaw skill o’ the face o’ the lift; but canna ye shaw skill o’ the signs o’ the times?
A wicket an’ adult’rous generation seeketh after a sign, an’ there sall nae sign be gien until it, but the sign o’ the prophet Jonas. An’ he quat them, an’ gaed awa.
An’ whan his disciples were come til the ither side, they had forgotten to tak’ bread.
Syne Jesus said until them, Tak’ tent, an’ bewaure o’ the barm o’ the Pharisees an’ o’ the Sadducees.
An’ they reasonet wi’ themsels, sayin’, It is because we hae taen nae bread.
Whilk whan Jesus perceivet he said until them, O ye o’ little faith, why reason ye wi’ yoursels, because ye hae broucht nae bread?
Dinna ye yet understan’, neither min’ the five laives o’ the five thousan’, an’ how mony creels‐fu’ ye teuk up?
Neither the seven laives o’ the four thousan’, an’ how mony creels‐fu’ ye teuk up?
How is it that ye dinna understan’, that I spakna it til you anent bread, that ye sud bewaure o’ the barm o’ the Pharisees an’ o’ the Sadducees?
Syne understood they how that he badena them bewaure o’ the barm o’ bread, but o’ the teachin’ o’ the Pharisees an’ o’ the Sadducees.
Whan Jesus cam’ intil the coasts o’ Cesarea Philippi, he spier’t at his disciples, sayin’, Wha do men say that I the Son o’ man am?
An’ they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist, some Elias, an’ ithers Jeremias, or ane o’ the prophets.
He saith until them, But wha say ye that I am?
An’ Simon Peter answer’t an’ said, Thou art the Christ, the Son o’ the livin’ God.
An’ Jesus answer’t an’ said until him, Blesset art thou, Simon‐Barjona: for flesh an’ bluid haena shawed this until thee, but my Father wha is in heaven.
An’ I say alsua until thee, That thou art Peter; an’ upon this rock I will big my kirk; an’ the yetts o’ hell sallna prevail agayne it.
An’ I will gie until thee the keys o’ the kingdom o’ heaven; an’ whatsaever thou sallt bin’ on yirth sall be bund in heaven, an’ whatsaever thou sallt lowse on yirth sall be lowset in heaven.
Syne charget he his disciples that they sud tell nae man that he was Jesus the Christ.
Frae that time furth begoude Jesus to shaw until his disciples how that he maun gang until Jerusalem, an’ thole mony things o’ the elders, an’ chief priests, an’ scribes, an’ be killet, an’ be raiset again the third day.
Syne Peter teuk him aside, an’ begoude to rebuke him, sayin’, Be it far frae thee, Lord; this sallna be until thee.
But he turnet an’ said until Peter, Get thee behint me, Satan, thou art an offence until me; for thou dostna savour the things that be o’ God, but thae that be o’ men.
Syne said Jesus until his disciples, Gin ony man will come after me, let him deny himsel, an’ tak’ up his cross, an’ follow me.
For whasaever will saufe his life sall tine it; an’ whasaever will tine his life for my sak’ sall fin’ it.
For what is a man profitet, gif he sall gain the hale warld, an’ tine his ain saul? or what sall a man gie in trock for his saul?
For the Son o’ man sall come in the glory o’ his Father wi’ his angels; an’ than he sall reward ilka man accordin’ til his warks.
Verily I say unto you, There are some stan’in’ here wha sallna prie o’ death till they see the Son o’ man comin’ in his kingdom.
