Saunt Matthew 15
15
1Syne cam’ til Jesus Scribes an’ Pharisees, wha were o’ Jerusalem, sayin’,
2Why do thy disciples break the tradition o’ the elders? for they washna their han’s whan they eat bread.
3But he answer’t, an’ said until them, Why do ye alsua break the commaun’ment o’ God by your tradition?
4For God commaundet, sayin’, Honour thy father an’ mither; an’, He that banneth father or mither, let him dee the death.
5But ye say, Whasaever sall say til his father or his mither, It is a gift, by whatsaever thou michtest be profitet by me;
6An’ honourna his father or his mither, he sall be quits. Sae hae ye made the commaun’ment o’ God o’ nae effec’ by your tradition.
7Ye hypocrites! weel did Esaias prophesy o’ you, sayin’,
8This people draweth near until me wi’ their mouth, an’ honoureth me wi’ their lips; but their hairt is far frae me.
9But in vain do they worship me, teachin’ for doctrines the commaun’ments o’ men.
10An’ he ca’d the thrang, an’ said until them, Hear an’ understan’:
11It isna that whilk gaeth intil the mouth fyleth a man; but that whilk cometh out o’ the mouth, that fyleth a man.
12Syne cam’ his disciples, an’ said until him, Kennest thou that the Pharisees were offendet after they hear’t this sayin’?
13But he answer’t an’ said, Ilka plant whilk my heavenly Father hathna plantet sall be rootet up.
14Let them alane; they are blin’ leaders o’ the blin’. An’ gif the blin’ lead the blin’, baith sall fa’ intil the sheugh.
15Syne answer’t Peter, an’ said until him, Mak’ plain until us this parable.
16An’ Jesus said, Are ye alsua yet withouten understan’in’?
17Dinna ye yet understan’ that whatsaever cometh in at the mouth gaeth intil the wame, an’ is coost out intil the draucht?
18But thae things whilk come out o’ the mouth come furth frae the hairt; an’ they fyle the man.
19For out o’ the hairt come bad thouchts, murders, adult’ries, furnications, thefts, fause witness, blasphemies:
20Thae are the things whilk fyle a man; but to eat wi’ unwashen han’s fylethna a man.
21Than Jesus quat that place, an’ gaed intil the coasts o’ Tyre an’ Sidon.
22An’, behald, a woman o’ Canaan cam’ out o’ the same coasts, an’ criet until him, sayin’, Hae mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son o’ David; my dochter is sairly afflickit wi’ a deevil.
23But he didna answer her a word. An’ his disciples cam’ an’ besoucht him, sayin’, Sen’ her awa; for she crieth after us.
24But he answer’t an’ said, I’mna sendet but until the tint sheep o’ the house o’ Israel.
25Syne cam’ she an’ worshippet him, sayin’, Lord, help me!
26But he answer’t an’ said, It isna fit to tak’ the bairns’ bread an’ to cast it til dogs.
27An’ she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat o’ the mulins whilk fa’ frae their maisters’ table.
28Syne Jesus answer’t an’ said until her, O woman, great is thy faith; be it until thee e’en as thou wilt. An’ her dochter was made hale frae that vera hour.
29An’ Jesus gaed frae that place, an’ cam’ near until the sea o’ Galilee, an’ gaed up until a mountain, an’ sat doun there.
30An’ a meikle thrang cam’ until him, haein’ wi’ them thae wha were lame, blin’, dumb, maimet, an’ mony ithers, an’ set them doun at Jesus’ feet; an’ he healet them.
31Insaemeikle that the thrang wonder’t, whan they saw the dumb to speak, the maimet to be hale, the lame to gang, an’ the blin’ to see: an’ they glorifiet the God o’ Israel.
32Syne Jesus ca’d his disciples until him, an’ said, I am wae for the thrang, because they hae stay’t wi’ me now three days, an’ hae naething to eat; an’ I winna sen’ them awa fastin’, lest they swarf by the road.
33An’ his disciples say until him, Whance sud we hae sae meikle bread in the wilderness as to fill sae meikle a thrang?
34An’ Jesus saith until them, How mony laives hae ye? An’ they said, Seven, an’ a wheen sma’ fishes.
35An’ he commaundet the thrang to sit doun on the grun’.
36An’ he teuk the seven laives an’ the fishes, an’ gied thanks, an’ brak’ them, an’ gied til his disciples, an’ the disciples til the folk.
37An’ they did a’ eat an’ were fillet, an’ they teuk up o’ the orra bits whilk were left seven creels‐fu’.
38An’ they wha did eat were four thousan’ men, forbye women an’ bairns.
39An’ he sendet awa the thrang, an’ gaed intil a ship, an’ cam’ intil the coasts o’ Magdala.
