The movie ‘Passion of the Christ’ was distressing in its brutality. The depiction of Christ crucified brought me to tears. As we approach Easter, I find myself again focussing on the massive sacrifice made for me and the peace and healing it delivers to me. It was Mel Gibson’s own hand in the scene where the nails are being driven in. And it could just as easily have been mine. Confronting as it is, it is a salient reminder of extreme suffering, extreme sacrifice and, of course, extreme love. Do you sometimes stop to reflect upon Jesus’ suffering 2,000 years ago and what it brought you? Pray: Dear Lord God, may we never forget the suffering that Jesus endured, as well as your great love for us in sending him to die for our sins. Thank you Jesus, and may our lives reflect our love and gratitude to you for all you’ve done for us. Amen.
