I am immensely grateful that Jesus Christ the Lord reigns forever, and that all judgment, righteousness, justice and strength are in Him. I thank You that He is the defense and refuge of His people at all times, especially when we are in trouble. I worship Him that He alone has Your power and authority to stand against and overcome all oppression from man and Satan. Truly, Jesus is the refuge for the oppressed. I rejoice that, like the cities of refuge in ancient times, the Refuge for the Oppressed is our source of life, now and for all eternity. Christ is life. Christ is peace. Christ is hope. Christ is safety. Christ is rest. Christ is freedom. I pray that Your Spirit will help us to know Him more and trust Him more, for He has never forsaken us. These truths vividly remind me of the wonderful old hymn by Civilla Martin, “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”: “Why should I be discouraged, Why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely, And long for heaven and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me. I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me.” All glory to the refuge for the oppressed.
