“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money” (24). Dealing with our money forces us to look at our values, our priorities, our loves.
It is clear from our Lord’s teaching that we are either laying up “treasures for ourselves on earth” or “laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven.” The force of this teaching is not about the amount of our resources, but our motivation. What is driving you? Where is your heart?
When you receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, you are surrendering everything you have to Him. You are resigning as the CEO of your own life. Everything belongs to the Lord: now we are stewards!
Therefore don’t love money. Give cheerfully and generously to the work of the Lord as an act of worship; an act of faith freeing you from the love of money.
