Kids Who Are Wise Beyond Their Years Sample

We don’t know exactly how old David was when he was anointed by Samuel, but many scholars think he was between 12-16 years old. His account of the day may have read something like this:

A Day in the Life of David

My day started like many others, but the way it progressed was extremely out of the ordinary. I was tending my father’s sheep outside of Bethlehem like I do every day. There wasn’t anything unusual about the day until someone came to fetch me from the field. He said my father needed me urgently back home. I left my sheep in the care of another shepherd and went right away.

When I arrived, my father and brothers were standing with an old judge named Samuel. The next thing I know, the old man is pouring oil over my head. 

I was a “nobody” at the beginning of the day. In fact, my own father didn’t include me in the family meeting with Samuel. God remembered me though! In an instant, I became somebody.

God looked at me, out in the fields tending sheep, and God saw my heart. I was faithfully completing my work, and God passed His approval on to me, even though I am just a boy. God saw my integrity. He watched my bone-deep honesty. My age wasn’t important. It was my heart that God saw.

Yes, it’s been a life-changing day! What do I do now? I go back to work (1 Samuel 16:19)! I know someone in my position may go shopping for crowns, but my sheep are waiting for me. I want to be faithful in the little things because it won’t be long until I am called to conquer giants.
