You Need a Friend

You are the one I came for. You are the one who makes Me smile. When you breathed your first breath I leaned close, my spirit filling the room. I want to be close to you. I like being close.

I remember walking in the garden, my arms around my beloveds, the sound of their feet as their soles touched the earth. I remember their voices, their laughter, how easy it was for them to walk side by side, share with Me their every thought.

They were good at intimacy because it was how I made them to be. They were good at vulnerability because they didn’t yet believe there was anything to hide. I remember the coolness of the night air and the moment they knew I was walking in the garden yet didn’t want to come join Me. I remember their faces, the turn of her head, the downcast eyes. My daughter, my daughter, what have you done?

You are meant to be with Me, my chosen one. You are meant to be with Me, walking in the garden. You are meant to be in community with Me. You are meant to be strong only in my presence, in the walks we do, always, in the garden.

This garden where we walk is everywhere I am, with you. It is the cool night on skin longing to be refreshed. It is the safe place where community lives and adventure begins. 

Let Me walk with you. Let Me be your friend.

And when we walk, look for the people who want to join us. It is good to surround yourself with friends who know Me. It is good to have a friend you can touch, walk with, in the garden—a friend who recognizes my voice. It is good to sit in a room with sisters and bravely not hide. I have made you to be bold, to live out who you really are.

You are capable of going where I ask you to go. You are capable of completing the task ahead of you. You are capable of hearing my voice. You are capable of stopping and resting and trusting. You are capable of surrendering, obeying, abiding, loving. You are capable of walking, in the garden, with Me.

What is getting in the way of believing you are capable? Are you letting the friends around you help you believe you are capable of walking with Me? Look for the friends I give you. Look for the community around you. Look for encouragement and find strength in my words, my story written out for you. Don’t hide your true self, the beauty I’ve put in you when you were first designed. Walk freely, walk confidently, walk in community, my arm around you, with sisters and brothers, too. 

We can all go together, deeper into the garden, deeper into the hope I have for you. You are not designed to be alone. Let’s go together, seeking these friends, shall we?
