Jesus Culture - Faith For Your City

DAY 1 OF 21

Abraham’s Heart For A City

Impact:

Abraham had a heart of mercy for people. We see it when God told Abraham that he had to deal with wicked people in two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham’s first thought was to plead for mercy for those that did not deserve judgment. Abraham pleaded with God to “spare the city” for the sake of fifty innocent people. (Gen. 18:24-25) God could not have agreed more. In fact, God would have even spared the city for the sake of only ten innocent people. (Gen. 18:32) As Abraham pleaded with God, he learned more about God’s heart for mercy and justice. We understand more of God’s mercy as we read Ezekiel 18:23, where God says, “Do you think I enjoy seeing evil people die?’ asks the Sovereign Lord. ‘No, I would rather see them repent and live.”

It was Abraham’s desire to see the innocent people of Sodom and Gomorrah live and thrive. Ezekiel heard God’s heart for the evil people to repent and live. Let’s join with God’s heart and release hope and mercy towards the city that we live in.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for loving my city and everyone in it. Bless my city with an outpouring of Your love and kindness that leads everyone to see Your goodness and turn towards You.
