BibleX: The Old Testament Prophets Sample

MODULE 4: PROPHETS
Today’s study begins the fourth section of our journey through the Bible, Module 4: Prophets. Over the next 16 days, we will focus on Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, Jonah, and Amos.
1. This module looks at a category of books called “The Prophets” or “prophetic books.” As you think about the prophetic books and the prophets who wrote them, what do you think these books are about? What kind of people do you think the Old Testament prophets were?
Isaiah 7:2-9
1. In this passage, the Arameans, also known as the Assyrians, have come to Jerusalem to conquer it. The king of Judah, Ahaz, is visited by Isaiah, God’s prophet. The phrase, “house of David” is a way of referring to King Ahaz. In verse 2, how would you describe the attitude of Ahaz?
2. In verses 4-9, what kind of message does God have Isaiah deliver? How does his message contrast with the emotions of Ahaz and the Israelites? What does Isaiah say will happen if the people do not have confidence in God?
