God's Imitators

DAY 8 OF 33

The clothes you wear

One of the best ways to earn instant popularity is to wear the right clothes, isn't it so?

For a while, Air Jordans were the best shoes. Then North Face jackets were the cool thing. Both of those were so popular that people were robbed at gunpoint simply for their clothes.

Maybe it's not that extreme for you, but you are a walking billboard for whatever company's clothes you wear. Splashed across the front (or the back) of you, the brand tells everyone where you got your shirt from.

God says that what you wear on the outside is not what makes you great. He wants to put more emphasis here on a different kind of clothing. "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience" (Colossians 3:12 NIV).

When you know that His love makes you holy and absolutely precious, you can control your temper, not talk back to your dad, and be nice to the classmate who did better than you on the test. It will be obvious that you are wearing Jesus' clothes. You won't even need the name Jesus written on your shirt; people will simply be able to tell.
