Chapter 24

Jesus foretold the temple’s destruction in Jerusalem. On the Mount of Olives, Jesus told His disciples about the future and what signs to watch for so no one would lead them astray. He compared the signs to birth pains. Lawlessness will increase and the gospel will be proclaimed throughout the whole world before the end comes. Tribulation will be cut short for the sake of the elect. Be ready for His coming.

Chapter 25

The parable of the ten virgins showed the difference between being prepared and not being prepared for the Lord’s delay in coming (from our human perspective). The parable of the talents given to servants according to their ability showed the importance of serving God with the talents you have and also having the right attitude toward God. Be faithful and you will receive more responsibility and blessings in abundance. The Son of Man will judge the nations and separate the sheep from the goats, similar to the work of a shepherd.

Chapter 26

Jesus taught about His crucifixion at Passover. The chief priests and elders plot His arrest and murder. A woman anointed Jesus’ head, and the disciples complained. Judas was paid thirty pieces of silver to betray Jesus. His disciples prepared for the Passover. Jesus instituted the Last Supper at the Passover and foretold Judas’ betrayal and Peter’s denial (both of which happened). Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane while His disciples slept. Jesus was arrested and tried by the chief priests and elders and Peter denied Him three times before the cock crowed, exactly as foretold.
