Genesis

DAY 4 OF 6

From the opening line of Scripture—“In the beginning, God created”—we are invited into a way of seeing the world that tells us something foundational about reality. It points to intention, intelligence, and purpose behind everything we observe. And while many assume modern science has moved us beyond that claim, what we’re actually discovering is a universe that is far more ordered and intricate than we once thought.

When we look at the natural world, we don’t just see change… we see consistency and structure. The complexity of life, even at its most basic level, resists easy explanations. A single cell carries layers of information and coordination that challenge the idea that randomness alone can account for it. At the very least, it invites us to consider whether what we’re seeing is better explained by design rather than chance.

Even the origin of the universe raises important questions. Science points to a beginning—a moment when space, time, and matter came into existence. That reality stands in tension with the idea that everything has always been here. Scripture has long declared this, not as a scientific hypothesis, but as a theological claim: that creation is dependent, not self-originating.

But Genesis isn’t trying to win a debate, it’s grounding us in truth. It reminds us that we are not accidents, and that the world is not the result of blind processes. There is a Creator who speaks, orders, and gives meaning to what exists. That reality shapes how we understand ourselves and the world around us.

As we reflect on these things, we don’t need to fear discovery or avoid honest questions. All truth ultimately belongs to God, and every layer we uncover reveals more complexity, not less. Rather than removing the need for God, it often sharpens the question of His role.

In the end, this is about more than origins—it’s about meaning. If “in the beginning, God created” is true, then everything that follows finds its place in Him.
