Truth Before the RingSample

Love Rejoices in Truth
Scripture:
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” — 1 Corinthians 13:6
Courtship is more than emotional connection, prayerful conversations, or shared visions of the future. It is the season where truth is meant to be established as the foundation for covenant. Many people enter relationships hoping love will grow strong enough to cover dishonesty, but Scripture teaches us the opposite. Love does not grow by hiding. Love grows by truth.
Fear is often the reason people avoid unveiling their past. Fear of rejection. Fear of being misunderstood. Fear of losing someone they deeply desire. Yet love that depends on secrecy is fragile. It creates anxiety and forces you to maintain an image instead of living freely as yourself.
God never designed marriage to be built on surprise revelations. Truth shared at the right time protects both hearts. It allows your partner to love you with understanding, not assumptions. When something in your past has the potential to affect your emotional health, spiritual walk, trust patterns, or marital expectations, silence becomes dangerous.
Sharing your past is not about reliving pain or exposing yourself unnecessarily. It is about honoring the seriousness of marriage. Truth gives clarity. Clarity brings peace. Peace allows love to grow without fear.
If love truly rejoices in truth, then honesty is not a threat to courtship. It is a gift.
Reflection
1. What parts of my past do I feel tempted to hide, and what am I afraid might happen if I share them?
2. Have I ever experienced the weight of keeping something hidden in a relationship? How did it affect me?
3. What would trusting God with my full story look like in this season of my life?
4. Do I believe honesty strengthens love, or do I secretly believe it ruins it?
