BibleProject | Holy Week & Easter

DAY 8 OF 8

God Will Be All in All

He is risen! So what?

When we recall the Holy Week moments we’ve explored so far, we see that Easter is more than the celebration of one man’s resurrection. It marks the history-changing, worldwide revolution of love that Jesus brought to its final phase.

For millennia, the threat of death drove most human decision-making, leading to violence and suffering that caused all creation to groan for peace. People assumed that peace came through strength, by destroying “evil” or “ungodly” people. But Jesus brings peace through a greater strength: the power of forgiveness, generosity, and love of enemies.

Jesus’ way of life shows us new ways to love one another freely. He starts recreating the world and everyone in it to be compelled by love for each other, not fear of death.

People following Jesus are being made new every day (2 Cor. 4:16), and like today’s video explains, they become partners with God in bringing his way of life to Earth, as it is in Heaven. When the work is done, the Apostle Paul says, evil has no more room because “God will be all in all,” which can also be translated as “everything to everyone” (Greek: pas en pasin, 1 Cor. 15:28).

Or as John puts it, Jesus “will wipe away every tear … and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away” (Rev. 21:4).

When you celebrate Easter, remember not only that “He is risen, indeed!” but that the revolution of love Jesus started is making all things new for all time.

Reflection Question

  • In your day-to-day life, what does it look like to partner with God to bring his Kingdom on Earth, as it is in Heaven?
