Remain: Staying Connected to Christ When Walking Away Feels EasierSample

Stay Connected
Let’s be honest right out the gate. Most of us don’t leave God all at once. We drift. Jesus opens John 15 with an image that’s impossible to ignore:
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the gardener.” (John 15:1)
The source. A foundational truth every disciple gets twisted now and again. Then He says something that cuts through our tendency to spiritualize disengagement:
“Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in Me.” (John 15:4)
In other words, separation doesn’t always look like full-on rebellion. That's why we miss it. Sometimes it looks like independence fueled by hustle culture and misguided motivational mantras. Remaining is not about intensity, perfected spiritual disciplines, or perfect church attendance. It’s about connection.
This matters for the disciple who feels numb in their faith, who still believes but has stopped depending. For the individual who prays less, not because they don’t care, but because they're tired of waiting. For the one quietly thinking, I’ll handle this myself.
Jesus doesn’t shame the branch. He simply names reality: disconnected branches don’t bear fruit. Not because they’re bad for wanting to uproot themselves, but simply because they’re detached from the life source.
Remaining is a choice to stay tethered when self-sufficiency feels safer than the let-downs you're used to. It’s choosing dependence when control feels much more efficient than the current slow pace. It’s refusing to confuse distance with strength. Even after trauma has rewired your brain into thinking otherwise.
The revival you're seeking is called reconnection.
Let’s Pray
Jesus, I confess that I’ve learned how to function without fully depending on You. I still believe, but I’ve pulled back in ways I didn’t even notice. Reconnect what has drifted. Restore what has gone quiet. I choose to stay. Amen.
Living It Out Loud
Reflect:
Where have you become more self-reliant than God-dependent in this season?
Do:
Today, practice one act of intentional connection. Five minutes of prayer, Scripture, or stillness without multitasking.
Declare:
I remain connected to Christ. My life flows from Him, not from my own striving.
