Daniel Fast - Awakening to His RealitySample

God Who Protects and Preserves
“My God sent His angel to shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me.” — Daniel 6:22 (ESV)
The book of Daniel records powerful examples of unwavering faith in the God of heaven. In Daniel 6, Daniel faced a life-threatening plot by those jealous of his excellent spirit and integrity. His enemies concluded that the only way to accuse him was through his devotion to God’s law (Daniel 6:5, ESV). His faithfulness in prayer remained so consistent that even the king’s decree could not stop him.
His obedience led him into the lions’ den—but that was not the end of his story.
This week, reach out to someone facing adversity.
Share your own testimony of God’s faithfulness and protection. Encouraging others strengthens them—and reinforces your faith journey.
Daniel testified:
“My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me.” — Daniel 6:22 (ESV)
This echoes the earlier account of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3). They refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s image, choosing obedience to God over personal safety. Thrown into a fiery furnace, they walked unharmed in the fire—preserved by the presence of God.
1. Believers should expect trials and persecution.
- John 15:19–21 (ESV) — Jesus warned that the world will hate those who follow Him.
- 2 Timothy 3:11–12 (ESV) — “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”
2. God is faithful to protect and preserve His people.
- Isaiah 43:2 (ESV) — “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… When you walk through fire you shall not be burned.”
- Romans 8:28 (ESV) — “For those who love God, all things work together for good…”
God does not promise a life free from hardship, but He guarantees His presence in every circumstance.
3. Faith empowers us to endure and overcome.
- Hebrews 12:1 (ESV) — Encourages us to run the race with endurance.
- Hebrews 11:32–34 (ESV) — Reminds us of those who “shut the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, and escaped the edge of the sword.”
Faith disarms the powers of darkness and brings glory to God.
Whatever trial you face today—whether you feel surrounded by fire or trapped in a den of pressure, persecution, or fear—remember:
God is faithful to protect and preserve those who trust Him. Hold fast to your faith, for the same God who delivered Daniel and the three Hebrew boys will be with you today.
Prayer
“Lord, thank You for being my protector and preserver.
Strengthen my faith so I may remain steadfast when trials arise.
Help me trust in Your presence in every circumstance.
Just as You delivered Daniel and the three Hebrew boys,
I believe You are able to deliver me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Reflection Questions
1. Reflect on past challenges where you experienced God’s protection.
Write down specific instances—for yourself and your family—and give Him thanks.
2. Reflect on your current challenges:
Where do you feel like you are facing “lions” or “fiery trials” today?
3. How might God be preserving you for a greater purpose in this season?
4. Identify three trusted people who can pray with you in your current season of testing. Who are you going to ask to stand with you?
