I Am Unhappy: Finding Joy When My Heart Is HeavySample

Jesus Weeps With You
One of the greatest sources of sadness is the feeling that no one truly understands what we are going through. Pain can feel isolating. Grief can feel like a road we must travel alone.
But Scripture gives an astonishing truth: Jesus Himself knows emotional pain from the inside.
The prophet Isaiah described Him as:
“A man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.” – Isaiah 53:3 (NKJV)
Jesus didn’t merely watch suffering – He entered it. He experienced loneliness, loss, betrayal, and deep sorrow. He understands every tear we cry.
One of the most powerful moments in the Gospels takes place at the tomb of Lazarus. Jesus knew He was about to raise Lazarus from the dead. He knew joy was minutes away. Yet when He saw Mary and the others weeping:
“Jesus wept.” – John 11:35 (NIV)
He didn’t rush past their pain. He didn’t minimize it. He didn’t tell them it would be OK. He didn’t tell them to cheer up.
Before He solved the problem, He shared the sorrow.
That is what love does. We see His compassion again when He encounters a grieving widow in Luke 7. His response:
“His heart went out to her.” – Luke 7:13 (NIV)
Jesus doesn’t just observe pain – He feels it. He enters into it. He moves toward hurting people with comfort, not condemnation.
Even in His own darkest moment – in Gethsemane – Jesus said:
“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” – Matthew 26:38 (NIV)
He knows what overwhelming sadness feels like.
This matters because it means your Savior is not distant or unsympathetic. He does not tell you to “get over it.” Instead, the book of Hebrews gives this assurance:
“We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses.” – Hebrews 4:15 (NIV)
Jesus is not just a rescuer – He is an understanding rescuer.
He stands with you in the tears, and He leads you toward joy that lasts.
When you are sad, Jesus is not disappointed in you. He is not frustrated with you. He is not far away. He is closer than your breath. The God who holds the universe also holds your heart.
He cares. He comforts. And He promises this:
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4 (NIV)
Joy is coming – because Jesus is with you.
Hope is alive – because Jesus is alive.
Your sadness is not a sign of weak faith. It is a place where grace meets you personally.
So today, if your eyes fill with tears, remember: Jesus wept too. And He weeps with you still – until He wipes every tear away.
Be comforted by your Savior today. He loves you just as you should love yourself.
