Mom in the Word: One-Year Bible Plan (Volume 1)

DAY 18 OF 65

Week 4 (Day 18): Stepping Forward in Faith Amid Uncertainty

Scripture Reading: Genesis 31-32

Devotional Focus: Trusting God’s Leading in Life’s Transitions

In today’s reading, we see a turning point in Jacob’s journey. After years of serving Laban and enduring deceit, God instructs Jacob to return home. He obeys, gathering his family and possessions, yet fear lingers—especially as he anticipates facing his brother Esau, whom he had wronged years earlier.

As moms, this passage speaks deeply to our own seasons of transition. Whether it’s stepping into a new phase of motherhood, making a big family decision, or navigating relationships, we often face uncertainty. Like Jacob, we may wrestle with fear—fear of the unknown, fear of confrontation, or fear of failure. But in the midst of Jacob’s uncertainty, God’s hand remains steady.

One of the most profound moments in these chapters is Jacob’s night of wrestling with God (Genesis 32:24-30). He refuses to let go until he receives a blessing. This moment is a picture of spiritual growth—of pressing into God, wrestling through struggles, and coming out transformed. As moms, we are often in a spiritual battle—raising children, growing in faith, and striving to live out God’s calling. But like Jacob, we must hold on, seek God’s presence, and trust that He is shaping us through every challenge.

Jacob’s name is changed to Israel, signifying a new identity. In the same way, our faith journey transforms us. The struggles we face—whether in parenting, marriage, or personal growth—are shaping us into women who trust God more deeply.

Reflection:

✨What fears or uncertainties are you currently wrestling with as a mom?

✨How can you, like Jacob, persist in seeking God’s presence even when life feels challenging?

✨What steps of faith is God calling you to take, even if they feel uncertain?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for guiding me even when I don’t see the full picture. Help me to trust You in my seasons of transition and uncertainty. Like Jacob, I want to hold onto You, knowing that You are working in my life and my family. Strengthen my faith and help me step forward in obedience, believing that You have a plan for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
