Main Idea: Obeying Jesus Will Free You
The Bible uses a strange phrase here: “slaves to righteousness.”
In fact, other verses go even further. 1 Peter 2:16 calls us “bond-servants of Christ.” Most bluntly of all, Ephesians 6:6 says we are “slaves of Christ.”
This is the biblical definition of freedom: that we become slaves to Jesus.
Biblically, it is impossible to welcome Jesus as the Saviour of your life without also welcoming Him as the Lord of your life. That’s because He is both a Saviour and a King, and you can’t welcome just a part of Him into your life; you need to welcome all of Him.
Or think about it this way: you can’t ask Jesus to save your life without putting your life in His hands, right? So, when you call on Him to save you, you give your life to Him. You don’t get to be in charge anymore. He calls the shots. He sets the direction. He is your Master.
Reflection Questions:
- How does the idea of being a “slave to Jesus” challenge or reshape the way you think about freedom?
- What do you think it looks like in everyday life to let Jesus be both your Saviour and your Lord, your Rescuer and your King?
