Back to the Basics 365

DAY 140 OF 365

In Joshua 1:8, the word "meditate" comes from the Latin verb "meditari", which means “to think about” or “to consider.” Similarly, in the Bible, you will see a word that appears from time to time: Selah. This term is thought to be a musical instruction and a signal to pause and reflect on what you have just heard. In other words, this term invites us to stop and meditate on God and what He is saying.

The Bible encourages us in Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1 to meditate on God's Word as often as possible. While it may be challenging to do this during a busy lunch break at work, consider taking a quiet walk alone around your neighborhood or visiting a park with your Bible. Find a peaceful spot and spend time pondering God's Holy Word. Time in God's Word is truly time well spent!

Have you meditated on God's Word today?
