Breathing Room

DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3–Choosing What Matters Most

In Luke’s Gospel, we meet two sisters: Martha and Mary. Martha is busy preparing for Jesus’ visit, while Mary sits at His feet, listening. When Martha complains, Jesus gently says, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing” (Luke 10:41-42).

Many of us live like Martha—constantly doing, endlessly striving. Yet Jesus reminds us that not everything urgent is important. When we choose presence with Him over productivity for Him, we find peace. Breathing room begins when we reorder our priorities around what matters most.

What if your schedule reflected your soul’s deepest needs instead of everyone else’s demands? What if you gave your best energy to time with God, your loved ones, and meaningful service, rather than to noise and busyness? Choosing what matters most is not about balance—it’s about alignment. It’s about living the life God actually calls you to live.

Questions to Reflect On

  1. What tends to distract you from spending time with Jesus?
  2. What is one change you can make to align your time with what matters most?
  3. Deeper Question: How might your peace deepen if you chose presence with Christ over productivity for Him?
