What's My Life's PurposeSample

When We Lost Sight of Who We Are
In Genesis 3, after Adam and Eve sinned, the first thing they did was hide. They covered themselves with fig leaves and distanced themselves from God. Before the fall, they walked in the freedom of identity. After the fall, they lived in fear and the confusion of shame.
That moment was more than disobedience—it was the loss of identity. They traded the “image of God” for “fear of judgment.”
The same thing happens today. When we sin, fail, or get hurt, we tend to hide behind our own “fig leaves”—careers, achievements, filters, or busyness. We try to prove our worth instead of receiving it. We perform instead of rest.
We live in a culture that praises performance and perfection. People curate their lives to look okay while silently struggling inside. But no filter can heal a broken identity, and no achievement can replace what only God can restore.
When we detach from Him, we begin to define ourselves by what went wrong instead of who we were made to be. We start chasing counterfeit purposes, trying to fill the void that only identity in Christ can satisfy.
If you’ve lost sight of who you are, God isn’t asking, “What have you done?” He’s still asking, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9). That’s a call of love and realignment, not condemnation.
“But the LORD God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’”
— Genesis 3:9
Prayer:
Lord, I confess that I’ve often hidden behind my mistakes and my own definitions of success. Call me back to You, my true Source of identity. Help me to see myself through Your eyes. Amen.
Reflection:
What “fig leaves” have you been using to hide from God? Ask Him to help you drop them and come back uncovered, just as you are.
