The Way of the Wildflower: Gospel Meditations to Unburden Your Anxious SoulSample

Small acts of faithfulness that beat back the darkness in the lives of ordinary people—that resonates deeply with me. I wonder if we underestimate the power of simple, ordinary faithfulness on the road to all that God has in store for us. What if your daily choice to be diligent, consistent, faithful, and present is preparing you for a work you can’t imagine right now? Whether that work is hidden or public, grand or small, international or right at your kitchen table, you can be equipped for what’s to come only when you steward well what you’ve already been given. So, “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
Friend, you can thrive. Right now, even in the midst of your everyday mundane. What you’re doing matters, and you are uniquely gifted for this very moment. Believe God has purpose for these ordinary days. Believe your circumstances are not obstacles to survive. You’re right where you need to be for God to use your faithfulness in such a way that he gets maximum glory and you experience all the good.
King’s Crown
Rhodiola integrifolia
The king’s crown is a succulent wildflower with brilliant crimson blooms and succulent leaves. While the blooms may seem like the “crown” of the flower, the leaves are also beautiful and integral to its survival.
Like with most plants, the leaves are responsible for photosynthesis, the source of the plant’s energy. And succulent leaves also help retain water. Though perhaps not showy, the leaves are lovely—and essential. . . .
I know how easy it is to feel lost in the mundane, but maybe some of the things that feel the most mundane aren’t really mundane at all. Maybe they’re essential—essential for our own growth and well-being and the well-being of those around us.
Don’t give up. God has great purpose in what feels like the smallest of things. May these small things bring you great joy today.
Prayer
Lord, please help me to find contentment in strength in the tasks you have placed before me. I want to honor you even when I do the most menial tasks, and I want my heart to praise you even when no one is around to hear me. Amen.
