Encountering Jesus

Imagine being in a field, looking after your flock of sheep as you do every day, when miraculously angels appear, lighting up the night sky, proclaiming the news that the Messiah... who you and your family had waited for your whole life... had finally come!

The angels’ story didn’t quite make sense. The Saviour of the world, a baby? Born in the humble setting of a lowly stable? But when the shepherds encountered Jesus, they couldn’t help but tell anybody who would listen. He was here. Love personified. In the flesh. Born to die, so we could live. He who left His rightful place in the heavenly realms, to dwell here on earth, and live a life that would set a perfect example to all who chose to follow Him as disciples. He who surrendered His life willingly and now asks for nothing from us that He hasn’t already given. He is here.

After encountering Jesus, they were compelled to share what had happened. The revelation. The personal encounter. The excitement about what His birth meant and anticipation of what was to come. Love at its purest, perfect – begetting more love.

Can we be like the shepherds? Let’s run to find Jesus. And when we find Him and experience His love, let's spread the word. Let’s celebrate and share Jesus Christ. All He did, and all He is. A love that bridged the abyss of sin so that we can be redeemed and spend eternity with Him, if we so chose. This is love. This is Jesus.
