DAY 12 OF 20

Unbelievable joy

In this passage, we read the sweet story of Mary going to visit her cousin Elizabeth. Mary was pregnant with Jesus, and Elizabeth was pregnant with John the Baptist. At the sound of Mary’s voice, John started to leap with joy inside of Elizabeth’s womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

What a beautiful illustration of how our heart and spirit responds when we encounter Jesus. Jesus, the greatest gift ever given to humanity, is the only One who can truly bless our hearts and our spirit. When we encounter Jesus, our hearts cannot help but be filled with joy. When we encounter Jesus, our spirit cannot help but leap for joy. Why? Because it’s encountering the One who created it. It’s encountering the living water, the giver of life, love, joy and peace.

We were made for communion with God. When we encounter Jesus, only then can our heart and spirit be filled with joy and peace. Not the joy and peace the world offers, but true and pure joy and peace, because that’s what Jesus offers us. When we encounter and give our life and heart to Jesus, we also get the Holy Spirit, our great comforter and helper. We get filled with His love, peace and joy. We get refined and restored to be with the One our soul loves, God Almighty, our heavenly Father. As we reflect on Jesus, may our hearts leap with joy for the One who loves us deeply and eternally.

About this Plan

Advent

“This Christmas season let’s remember that God’s promises are not like ours – fragile and sometimes forgotten – but are firm, fulfilled and forever. In every wrapped gift, flickering Christmas tree light and sung carol, may we see a reflection of the ultimate gift: Jesus, the righteous branch – our everlasting hope.” (The Promise of a Righteous Branch – Robbie Parkin)
