Day 3: Receive God’s Abundant Grace and Gift of Righteousness
Scripture: “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” — Romans 5:17 (NKJV)
Romans 5:17 mentions two things we have received: an abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.
I once heard a mentor say, “The Christian life is not just difficult; it is impossible.” That statement shook me—but it’s true. It is impossible to live the Christian life in your own strength.
There were times when filthy thoughts and imaginations came into my mind, and I would try so hard to fight them on my own. I’d distract myself, hoping that by avoiding them long enough, I could overcome them. But all my efforts led nowhere.
The truth is, you cannot make progress in your faith life without receiving God’s abundant grace and His gift of righteousness. It’s one thing to mentally agree that you are righteous; it’s another to receive that truth in your heart and live by it.
Sadly, many believers confess what they feel rather than what God’s Word says about them. Grace doesn’t excuse sin—it empowers you to rise above it. God loves you, even in your mess, but His love also lifts you out of that mess.
When you receive His grace, you begin to live free—free from guilt, free from striving, free from the dominion of sin. You are no longer under the law; you are under grace. And under grace, you reign in life through Christ Jesus.
Reflection:
Are you trying to live the Christian life in your strength, or are you relying on God’s grace and His gift of righteousness?
Prayer & Confession
Father, thank You for the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness You’ve given me. Teach me to rely fully on Your grace, not my effort. I choose to live free from sin, sickness, and lack, and to reign in life through Christ Jesus. Amen.
