Dakila (Great) by Victory Worship

Reflect

Paghihirap ay mapapawi
(Suffering won't last)
Pag-ibig Mo’y mananaig
(Your love prevails)

The song “Dakila” is inspired by the promise of God’s light and glory (Isaiah 60:1). We sing to remind ourselves that there is peace, security, and unchanging hope in His presence. We can stand firm because our lives are in His hands and He is worthy of our worship—even in dark times and through the storms of life.

Tropical typhoons are familiar to Filipinos. We have learned to anticipate what they bring—howling winds, floods, disruption of our daily routines, and destruction of property. Through generations, we have adapted. It seems like our only choice is to endure and even try to find comedy in calamity.

But some storms are not natural and hit us differently. They last longer, are more overwhelming, and break through even the seemingly most resilient among us. No matter how seasoned we think we are in life, some storms can shake us to the core: a medical report that confirms cancer, a marriage on the brink of separation, or a business crumbling into bankruptcy.

Like a major power outage, darkness tends to surround us during such storms, and it is in these helpless moments that we often ask, “Will I see this come to an end? Will I ever see the light of day again?”

And God’s word, like a lit candle, shines and speaks, “Yes, you will!”

Isaiah was speaking to an exiled community that was greatly disoriented and in deep despair (Isaiah 60:1)—they could not see the light. But God promised radiance, His very presence.

The Lord will come to restore His people, comforting and sustaining us in times of sorrow. That’s why we can look to Him as our light, salvation, and stronghold (Psalm 27:1), even when we walk through hardship and storms. We can cling on to the greatness of God’s faithfulness and hope in Him alone.

The everlasting light of God’s love and faithfulness is still greater than the darkest storms of life.

So, even when the darkness presses in and the flood waters rise, God’s presence will enable us to rise above these challenges and cause us to be grounded on His promises.

Respond

  • Take time to come to God in solitude. Pour out what you are feeling and currently experiencing to Him.
  • Meditate on the line, Paghihirap ay mapapawi, Pag-ibig Mo’y mananaig in the song “Dakila.” How does this truth affect the way you will face current challenges and storms?
  • Worship and lift God’s name even in the midst of your present realities. May your day be filled with hope as you praise Him for His greatness and worthiness.

Pray

Heavenly Father, we remember Your great love for us today and declare Your faithfulness over our lives. May we constantly hope in Your unchanging holy nature and Your goodness towards us, Your people. We ask that You strengthen us as we look to You in the darkest of storms and may we emerge as reflectors of this light of hope that the world needs. We praise You for You are indeed greater than any challenge that would try to come our way. Amen.
