Flawed Views of Your Work

In the book “Your Work Matters to God,” the authors discuss three flawed views of work. The final view was that work is merely a platform for evangelism.

Jeff Comment, former CEO of Helzberg Diamonds, discovered that his top-performing store had a dramatic sales decline. When Jeff asked his team why, someone said, “That’s Jim’s store. He used to be the best until he found the Lord. Now all he does is evangelize.”

Afterwards, Jeff rebuked this store manager and informed him that how well he sold jewelry was also important to God.

Colossians 3:23 teaches, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Evangelization in the marketplace tends to fall on deaf ears if others observe poor quality work, laziness, or if you treat people poorly.

God’s heart is for evangelism, but He also desires you to do excellent work, as working for the Lord. Give your employer your best efforts, and then you will often find others more interested in why you are the best.
