Custody Battle
I remember a painful conversation that I had with a man in the middle of a custody battle for his child. He didn’t seem angry; he seemed broken to pieces. He knew the environment where his child would end up wasn’t safe. He would do anything to rescue him. That scene stuck with me because it reflects, in its own way, the fierce love of God. Those of us who now know God were once trapped in a custody battle between darkness and light. The devil thought he could have custody over us, but he was dead wrong. God fought for us. On the cross, Jesus disarmed the one who held the power of death and set free those who lived as slaves to fear (Hebrews 2:14–15). That is why the Father not only delivered us from a cruel hand, but transferred us from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of His beloved Son (Colossians 1:13–14).
This freedom isn’t just a change of status; it is a complete transfer of kingdoms. John 8:36 tells us that the one whom the Son sets free will be truly free. In other words, free to say no to the sin that once dominated us and free to walk in the works prepared by God for us (Ephesians 2:1–5). If you don’t know Jesus yet, know that there is a Father who fights for you. You don’t have to remain under the custody of lies, fear, or guilt. Christ has already signed your release with His own blood.
And if you already belong to Christ, remember this: the battle didn’t end by your strength; it ended by His. When old masters come knocking on the door, don’t negotiate with them. You belong to another kingdom and to another Father. Run to Him and let His Word and His Spirit reign in your heart.
Are there any chains trying to bind you again? Identify it and hand it over to the Father.
Let’s pray: Father, thank You for fighting for me and transferring me into the kingdom of Your Son. Break every bond that tries to claim me, and teach me to live in Your freedom. Amen.
