5 Ways Sacrifice Integrates Faith and Work

DAY 1 OF 5

Counting the Cost: What Sacrifice Looks Like in the Workplace

Is it right that true sacrifice costs us nothing? King David understood this principle and the far-reaching impact that sacrifice has on every aspect of our lives! In fact, in the Bible, King David would not accept the land where an altar was to be built for a burnt sacrifice, and he insisted on buying the land

David understood a principle that true sacrifice costs something.

In business and daily tasks, the temptation to chase shortcuts or easy wins can be strong. But God calls us to a deeper kind of offering—one that requires surrender and trust.

  • Sometimes sacrifice looks like integrity, even if it costs a sale or recognition.
  • Sometimes it’s about generosity —giving beyond what feels safe or convenient.
  • Sometimes it’s patience, slowing down when the world tells you to rush ahead.

David refused to give God something that required no cost. In the same way, we must examine what we place before Him. Are we offering leftovers—our leftover time, energy, or profit—or are we giving Him our best?

Sacrifice in work is not about loss but about worship. It’s declaring:
“Lord, You are worth my costliest offering. I trust You to multiply what I surrender.”

Thoughts to actions:
This week, prayerfully identify one specific area in your work or business where you can make a costly, God-honoring choice:

  • Stand firm in integrity even if it costs you.
  • Give generously where it stretches your comfort.
  • Pause and wait on God’s direction before acting.

Write your commitment down, invite God into it, and trust Him to bless your obedience.

Prayer
Lord, give me David’s heart—to bring You my best, not my leftovers. In my work, business, and prayer life, help me count the cost and gladly surrender what is precious to me. Let my sacrifices be true worship that glorifies You and blesses others. Amen.
