Someone to Believe InSample

The Same in the Future
Jesus had one purpose when he came to earth: to bring his wayward people back to him. He offers his life up as our continual food—we live because he died. His body broken for us forever satisfies all our spiritual longings. And there isn’t a single mouth he misses when he offers his life as our spiritual food.
He doesn’t lose a single one.
The message of John 6 is that if he meticulously feeds his people every day of our wilderness journey, he won’t let us starve in the final day. He leaves no meal half-cooked. And there is more than enough to go around.
But you must believe. You must take him at his word and on his terms. You must want him more than you want the temporary morsels he provides. I must believe he’s enough, even when I don’t know what tomorrow holds.
It’s hard to accept that there is nothing we bring to our salvation. It’s hard to accept that the call to follow Jesus means we suffer with him. It’s hard to accept that Jesus is enough to satiate your hunger pains, especially when you’re still waiting on daily bread.
But after hearing him speak of his provision in the wilderness, how can we not gladly feast on him always? Nothing else will satisfy. Nothing will satiate the hunger pains. Nothing will keep us full all the way to the end. We come to him for more because we want more of him, not because he gives us empty calories and we need a blood sugar boost. We come to him empty and walk away full of a better provision than earthly food that we burn through by lunchtime.
He is the hand that feeds us, but he’s also the hand that keeps us. As we feast on him, he won’t lose a single one. He is someone to believe in because where all other means of earthly satisfaction fail, he will satisfy our hunger pains all the way to the feast in glory.
