Overbooked & OverwhelmedSample

Our society is wildly consumeristic. We think the more we buy, the more we have, the happier we will be. Pick yourself up by the bootstraps, perfect this life hack, do your skin-care routine, buy this gadget, build an empire, gain social media followers, accumulate wealth, retire early, get enough sleep, and then you’ll be enough. Then you’ll have enough. This is the gospel of culture, not the gospel of Christ.
The real gospel, the real good news, is that Jesus is the Living Water (John 7:38). Jesus is the Bread of Life (John 6:35). Jesus is the Rock on which we stand (1 Corinthians 10:4). Jesus is the True Vine (John 15:1). What do all those names have in common? The fact that Jesus is enough. He is our source. He is our salvation. He is sufficient. He is the answer. He is abundantly, completely, and truly everything we need. About whom or what can we say the same?
Now, I hear you. Let’s not be naive. Every single day, without fail, you and I have essential needs like food, water, shelter, and clothing. I’m not lobbying that we all stop eating or wearing clothes. God created our bodies to need those things, as well as community and connection, to name a few more. But the point is this: No one else saves and satisfies our souls like Jesus can.
Too many of us are walking around with a scarcity mindset. Too many of us are living like we are lacking, so we keep on overbooking our schedules and our souls, searching for something to fill the void. Maybe you really do believe that Jesus is enough for you and that He deserves first place in your life. You’ve read it in the Bible, and you’ve heard it in Sunday school, but the very real busyness and heaviness of life has caused a lapse in memory. The very real appeal of social media and entertainment is alluring. I get it. That’s why, my dear friend, we need a spiritual reset. Each day, we need a reminder of just how enough Jesus is.
Prayer
Father, please forgive me for being consumed by the worldly things around me. Please help me remember all that You have provided for me, including my eternal salvation. Amen.
