Day 1 | Hunger
Have you ever watched animals fight over food? From feathery birds of the air to the growling lion to your neighborhood pet — if you get between animals and their food you will be quickly reminded that they are beasts led by their hunger. A hunger for something forbidden is what messed up the whole human to God connection in the first place (see Genesis 3). When we fast we realign our hunger, we tame it, because we are not beasts who are directed around by impulse. We are people created in the image of God — you are an image bearer of God Almighty. You are able to direct your appetite toward good. Throughout today may your hunger for more of God’s goodness increase.
Prayer: God, I want to lead and direct myself as your child. Help me not to be led by my desires but by your will and your way. I am relying on you today. Thank you that you are near. Amen
