Start Where You Are: A Journey of Stewardship and GenerositySample

Day 2: Living Differently Starts Today
True change begins not when we have more resources, but when we choose to live differently with what we already have. Many incarcerated men and women have shared that before prison, their lives were marked by unhealthy financial choices—debt, stealing, or chasing quick money. But when they began learning God’s principles of stewardship, everything shifted.
The widow in 2 Kings 4 had to take a step of obedience. Elisha told her to gather jars and pour out her oil. It seemed foolish—how could one little jar fill many? But as she obeyed, God multiplied what she had. In the same way, when we obey God’s Word—whether by budgeting, saving, giving, or resisting debt—He transforms our lives.
Living differently is not always glamorous. It may mean choosing to save a little at a time, planning ahead for expenses, or saying “no” to debt. But each act of faithfulness builds trust in God’s provision. Instead of depending on our own hustle or strength, we learn to depend on Him.
Freedom comes not from having more, but from living God’s way. When we start where we are and obey Him in the little things, He entrusts us with more.
Reflection Question:
Where do you need to take a step of obedience today—financially or otherwise—to trust God more fully?
About this Plan

No matter your past mistakes or present struggles, God can begin a new work in you today. Like the widow who trusted God with her last jar of oil, we can start where we are, offering what little we have, and watch Him multiply it for His glory. This 3-day devotional shares the story of Dana and others who discovered freedom, stewardship, and purpose—even behind prison walls. Their testimony reveals how biblical financial principles and generosity can transform lives, starting right now.
