Mary's Song of Praise

DAY 6 OF 7

God’s promise fulfilled

‘He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His offspring forever’ (Luke 1:54-55 ESV).

God promised the patriarch of Israel, Abraham, centuries before the birth of Mary, that He would never give up on Abraham's descendants (Genesis 1:17, Genesis 22:16-18). The prophets of Israel also kept telling God's promises to the people; He would remain faithful to His people (Micah 7:20). Israel is also called "His servant" in the Bible (Isaiah 41:8). Instead of ‘servant’, one can also say apprentice, or boy. God uses these words to say, "You are Mine”. God does not present Himself as a tyrannical ruler, but seeks a Father-child relationship with His people. Israel had to wait centuries before the promised Messiah came. Mary was the first to see a glimpse of God's promise fulfilled. The Child she expected would fulfill God's promises in a tangible way. God often works in a different way than we expect. In Mary, we see how God fulfilled the promise of the coming of Israel's Savior. This should give us courage and confidence that He will also fulfill His promises to us. The promise that He will be with us always and that His kingdom of peace is coming. Definitely!

Lord God, I pray that …

Lord God, I thank You that …
