Time Enoughness: Rewiring Your Brain for a Grace-Paced LifeSample

Some days, I wake up already behind. There are texts to return, emails stacked like pancakes, deadlines closing in, and people I care about who need more than I can give.
It all feels so urgent. Heavy. And a little bit holy.
Because I want to help. I want to be faithful. I want to make a difference.
And somewhere in that good desire, I start believing something that sounds noble but isn’t true. That it’s all up to me.
If I don’t show up, it won’t happen.
If I don’t carry it, it will fall.
If I don’t do it right now, someone will suffer.
But when I pause long enough to listen, the Holy Spirit gently reminds me that God is not wringing his hands. He’s not short on time or low on resources. He’s not pacing the floor, wondering how it’s all going to get done.
He is sovereign. He is good. He is fully capable of accomplishing his work with or without me.
Biblical Truth
The apostle Paul puts it plainly in Acts 17:25 (NIV): “And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.”
God delights in inviting us into his work, but he doesn’t depend on us to get it all done.
The weight is not on our shoulders. It never was.
Isaiah 46:10 (CSB) echoes this truth: “My plan will take place, and I will do all My will.”
That is not a suggestion. It is a declaration.
God’s plan will take place. He is not in a hurry, and he is not overwhelmed.
When I believe this, I can take a deep breath. I can show up faithfully, do the work he’s given me, and rest in the truth that he is carrying what I cannot.
Brain Science
When we live under the pressure of believing it all depends on us, our nervous system responds with stress. The brain signals threat. Cortisol floods the body. Muscles tighten. Sleep suffers. Anxiety rises.
This constant state of urgency is not only emotionally exhausting, but it also physically wears us down.
But when we trust that the weight is not ours to carry, the body begins to find its balance. The brain returns to a calmer rhythm. Focus improves. Energy is restored. Peace becomes possible.
Surrender is not just spiritual. It is deeply healing. Letting go of what is not ours to hold allows both our soul and our body to rest.
Practical Tips
- Name one heavy burden you are carrying today. Ask God, “Is this mine, or is this yours?” Then release what does not belong to you.
- Speak this truth out loud when you feel the pressure rise: God’s work will still get done. I am not responsible for everything.
- Take a posture of surrender. Open your hands, breathe slowly, and offer this prayer: “God, I trust you with what I cannot carry.”
Prayer
God, I love you, and I want to be faithful, but sometimes I pick up more than you’ve asked me to carry. Teach me to trust you more. Help me rest in the truth that you are holding all things together. Amen.
Coming Tomorrow
What if doing more isn’t the answer? Tomorrow we’ll remember that in God’s economy, small and simple often carry the most weight.
