Thriving at WorkSample

Thriving at Work

DAY 2 OF 6

Give diligence to your work/calling.

Work is usually about being productive with your hands and brains, and that leads to making things better than they used to be. For instance, assume you currently work in a high-tech education school as an instructor teaching software engineering. Why were you hired? To contribute to the education of young people to become great workers in the tech field. Isn’t it? Suppose you are not doing the work effectively and not treating people well. Do you know the destinies of the students you are messing up with? It may not look evident to you, but it is important.

Imagine yourself as a parent who has paid money to send your ward to school so the child can secure a good job in the future and improve their life, only to pay a visit and find that your child’s instructor is not doing the work well. How does it feel? Very frustrating. Right? The instructor’s behavior not only tarnishes the reputation of the school, but also breeds distrust in the parents, and can go a long way to making the company lose revenue when the affected parent tells others about the incident. But all these won’t happen if the instructor is always diligent, whether being supervised or not.

Diligence is the hallmark of every excellent worker. Nothing gets done well and is constantly improved without someone dedicating their life to making things work. No matter how good a company’s administrative setup is, if the workers are not doing the work diligently, things won’t go well over time. As you put diligence into the work of your hands, things will improve. Even in ministry, this principle works. God promotes those who work hard in His kingdom. They may not have many things on their hands right now, but as long as they are faithful with little, God can entrust them with much. Remember that as a child of God, you don’t need people to supervise you before you do your work diligently. No! God is your ultimate supervisor. So, with Him by your side, work wholeheartedly and see Him move you higher.
