Joy RulesSample

Take a moment to pause and ask God to help you slow down and hear his words through today’s reading.
Let’s continue reading Paul’s words of appreciation to the Philippian church.
As exceptional and appreciated as the Philippians’ generosity is, Paul reminds them that God is the ultimate generous giver. Over and over in his letter, he has reminded them that despite his very real difficulties, he has everything he needs – and more – in Jesus.
Author, Dallas Willard says, “Joy is not a passing sensation of pleasure, but a pervasive sense of well-being that is infused with hope because of the goodness of God.”
When have you experienced this kind of joy?
What has joy looked like over the past few weeks as you’ve been reflecting on the book of Philippians and these themes?
Practice: Try to savor some of God’s goodness and love. Make a short list of some of the most tangible ways God has provided for you today. Then as you think about each one, try to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of each one.

About this Plan

Though he was captive in prison, Paul was captivated by Jesus. That makes him the perfect mentor for any of us who yearn to live with joy and contentment in spite of our troubles. During the Joy Rules reading plan, we'll trek through Paul's writings in the book of Philippians in search of the always-present, ever-accessible joy Jesus offers.
